Drivability issues can be caused by a failing or failed fuel injection pump, however other factors can cause these problems.
Such issues are often caused by a failed or failing PMD, fuel lift pump or electronic filter harness (1994-1995).
Contaminated fuel is a major factor is engine drivability issues. Water, whether in the form of globules or emulsified (entrained water) along with sediment (rust flakes, sand or dirt) can raise hovoc with the fuel injection system.
